GREER GARSON: Regal Star

by Neil Doyle

“The landmark role of Mrs. Miniver cemented Garson’s screen image as a wife and mother of resolute courage and determination. She would be cast in the same kind of role again and again, as of as not with Walter Pidgeon by her side . . . Garson’s career in Hollywood spanned about fifteen years, but her most productive time was between 1939 and 1945. She begged out of her MGM contract in 1954, and even though good roles were scarce for her after 1945, she garnered a total of seven Oscar nominations, a fitting tribute to her talent.”
