A happy and unbelievably lucky young Irish immigrant lands a job as the butler of an unconventional millionaire, Biddle. His daughter tires of the unusual antics of her father--especially since the nice young men around town all fear him. Wouldn't you fear a father-in-law that keeps alligators for pets and teaches boxing at his daily Bible classes? She decides to run off to boarding school and promptly finds the man of her dreams. Unfortunately, his family doesn't approve of Biddle's outrageous antics, either.

THE HAPPIEST MILLIONAIRE was released by Walt Disney Pictures on June 23, 1967. It marked Greer Garson's last theatrical film.

THE HAPPIEST MILLIONAIRE is available on both VHS and DVD, but there are two different releases available. The first release pictured (left) is the road show edition, which is the full, 164 minute version. It is currently unavailable on DVD and VHS, unless you are willing to pay a high price for it. In my opinion, it is worth the extra money to have it on at least VHS if not DVD. Before buying it from Amazon or any other online retailer, I suggest looking for it on eBay or Half.com, as it can sometimes be found at those two places for a somewhat decent price. If you do look for it there, and want the road show version, make sure that the photo shown along with the listing looks like the first one below (left), or look at the running time. There are some 144 minute versions floating around out there, but they are the 1989 release of the film and are not the full length version.

The second release pictured (right) is available on both VHS and DVD, and is the newer of the two releases. However, it is cut down to 141 minutes. If there is no way you can possibly get the road show release, this one is an okay second to it. I would suggest this one over the 1989 release just because of the difference in picture and sound quality, even though it is cut shorter.
